Pastoral Prayer (05/16/2021)

Our Father, who is in heaven: We approach you this morning, remembering the words of the prophet Isaiah: You are God, and there is no other. You are God, and there is none like you. You declare the end from the beginning, you declare from ancient times the things not yet done. Your counsel will stand, and you will accomplish all your purpose.

Heavenly Father, because you and you alone are God, we come to you with our prayers and requests and supplications this morning. You assure us that if we delight ourselves in you, you will give us the desires of our heart. We ask that our hearts’ desires would be your desires.

Father, as you command us in 1 Timothy 2, we pray for kings and for all who are in high places – around the world – that you would intervene in how they rule so that Christians everywhere may lead peaceful, quiet, godly, and dignified lives. We pray Father for churches in the west, even in Canada, who have started to come under attack by those whom you have raised up to positions of authority. We ask that you bring those rulers to their senses or to their knees so that faithful Christians in faithful churches with faithful pastors may gather to worship you. We also pray, Father, for missionaries, for Christians, and for the children of Christians who are being persecuted in areas of Asia. Protect them physically and more importantly protect them spiritually – preserve them in the faith, and may they find joy, hope, and comfort through their Savior Jesus Christ.

Father, we pray for our community – Marengo, Ohio and Morrow County and the cities and townships and counties that surround us. We pray that you be breaking up the soil and tilling the soil and preparing the soil of our community so that the gospel seed that is sowed by our church and by other faithful churches in the area would take hold and develop deep roots and bear fruit for your kingdom. Save the lost who surround this church, and knit them deeply into the lives of this church or other churches which love and serve you.

Lord, we also pray for all of the lost who are part of each of our lives – our children who do not yet confess Christ; extended family members who need to hear the gospel; neighbors; colleagues; acquaintances. You know who they are, Father. You know the ones with whom we’ve shared the gospel. You know the ones toward whom we’ve been too timid in sharing the gospel. We praise you that you are not limited by our sin or by our limitations. So we ask that you would get the gospel to the lost whom we know and that you would save them by your grace.

Father, we pray for our church. Pastor Pete and I are praying specific things for this church; and I pray those prayers now. I pray that our church would be characterized by a culture of discipleship, a culture of evangelism, and a culture of prayer. Change the hearts of every member of this church to make us more Christ-like in these ways. Father, as a church we pray for a worship pastor. We pray that you would bring a man to this church who loves you, who loves the church, who is qualified and called by you to pastor, and who is gifted and who desires to lead your people in worship. We know that worship brings you glory and worship transforms us.

Father, we thank you for your Word. It is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. I pray this morning that you would enlighten the eyes of our hearts so that we may know the hope of your calling, the riches of the glory of your inheritance in the saints, and the surpassing greatness of your power toward us who believe.

Together we pray all of these things in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
